Today marks the 143rd running of the Kentucky Derby. While many eyes may be glued to their TV's come 6:46pm to pull for their favorite, we have our attention focused on what we will be drinking to celebrate "the most exciting two minutes in sports."
Of course, I am talking about Woodford Reserve's commemorative Kentucky Derby bottle, which sports a limited-edition label featuring artwork from various artists each year. A tradition that spans eighteen years for the Official Bourbon of the Kentucky Derby®, this year features the work of award-winning equine artist, Thomas Allen Pauly. This is the second consecutive year that Pauly's work has been featured on the label. His painting titled, "Inspired," shows an almost birds-eye view of the race, looking down between the iconic Twin Spires™ of Churchill Downs® -- A rare view that the common spectator would likely never have the chance to experience.
Along with all of that, a hang tag is included with details about the artist and distillery. A seal with Thomas Allen Pauly's signature provides a nice finishing touch to this true enthusiast's collector item. Owning this commemorative bottle is almost as good as having the real painting hanging on the wall. Well, maybe not quite as good. However, at a suggested retail price between $40 and $50 depending on where you live, it won't break the bank. Either way, this will look great on the shelf!
